Mission and Aims

Mission

To cultivate compassionate, innovative, skilled internal medicine physicians with a deep sense of curiosity yielding lifelong learning and a dedication to providing High-Quality, patient-centered care across diverse populations. Grounded in our mission, we honor the balance and interconnectedness of self, each other, our patients, our community, and the land, creating a better life for all.

Aims

  • To provide a multitude of experiences teaching the core competencies yielding skilled internal medicine physicians proficient in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • To provide opportunity for robust procedural training through first simulation then supervised repetition of the core internal medicine procedures as well as advanced procedures personalized to interest and career path.
  • To generate a love for primary care through an innovative curriculum with the following:

    • Development of an understanding and appreciation of the people and cultures inhabiting our region
    • Attainment of a sense of confidence and competence in primary care through multiple specialty rotations
    • Exploration of the services and systems outside the clinic
    • Completion of a continuity clinic panel analysis to appreciate the impacts of the Social Determinates of Health
    • Development of a sense of deep purpose as a primary care physician through daily exercises highlighting a purpose-driven framework
  • To teach a foundational process for effective quality improvement initiatives, proficiency in performance of evidence-based research as well as effective analysis and interpretation of the evidence.
  • To maintain resident health, wellness, and life balance while simultaneously generating a sense of interconnectedness with each other, faculty, patients and the environment around them through a rigorous wellness curriculum.
  • To teach and maintain an expectation of extraordinary and consistent professionalism and nurture a sense of inclusion.
  • To seek residents reflective of the diverse patient population we serve.
