Connelly Hospitality House

The Connelly Hospitality House is affordable lodging for cancer patients and their families and caregivers who live more than 50 miles away from Farmington. When the house isn’t fully occupied, families of those hospitalized with a traumatic injury or medical emergency who meet the distance requirement are also welcome. There is no lodging fee, but we hope all residents will contribute to ensure that the house remains open and well-maintained for future guests.

We accept reservations from families who meet the criteria above. Ask your doctor or nurse to refer you to San Juan Regional Medical Center’s case management. The staff there can help you complete the form required for registering at the house.

The house is located directly south of the main hospital and equipped to serve eight families. Guests can cook, wash laundry, create arts and crafts, sit around the fireplace, read a book from the well-stocked library, walk around the garden, and forge friendships with other families affected by cancer, traumatic injury, or medical emergency.

RV Parking

In addition, a parking area with three full hook-ups for recreational vehicles is just a few steps from the front door. Spaces are available for $10 a night and is first come, first served. RV parking is open to anyone who may be staying at the hospital.

History
Jerry and Bonnie Connelly were local residents who fought Jerry’s battle with cancer together. After staying at a patient lodging facility in Houston, Texas, they returned to Farmington with the hope of creating a hospitality house to serve the Four Corners area. They established the Connelly Hospitality House fund in 1991. Bonnie and hundreds of donors and volunteers worked tirelessly until the Connelly’s dream was fulfilled.

The house was designed by architect Charlie Berger and sits on land donated by SJRMC. On Valentine’s Day in 2001, the house opened—as a gift of love from the Four Corners community to the Four Corners community.

Funding for the house comes from donations, guest fees, and special fundraising events. San Juan Medical Foundation is the non-profit organization that managed the funding campaign to build the house. SJMF continues to work on behalf of the house in order to establish a permanent fund to operate the facility.
