Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

As an organization, we live by a set of Core Values. Personal Reverence calls on us to look for and honor the differences in each person. Our diversity is one of our strengths; something to be celebrated. When the diverse ideas and cultures of our workforce are included we thrive.

San Juan Regional Medical Center (SJRMC) is privileged to have a culturally-diverse workforce. Likewise, we are honored to serve, support, and provide healthcare services to a diverse community. SJRMC has been a trusted community healthcare provider for over 100 years and we have always strived to serve the entire four corners community. Our Core Values and Service Standards support a culture of Diversity and Inclusion.

We say it simply but elegantly in our Core Value of:

Personal Reverence: We will look for and honor the differences in each person.

… and in our Service Standard of:

Courtesy: Be patient-centered and respect the inherent value and worth of each person.

Diversity is the richness of human differences. It is an all-inclusive concept incorporating the differences among race, gender, age, national origin, ethnicity, physical, mental and developmental abilities, language, religion, culture, socio-economic status, sexual orientation and any other attributes that truly represent an individual or group. We understand that diversity is not only the obvious differences, but the less apparent as well. Our collective success depends on the robust exchange of ideas; an exchange that is best when the rich diversity of our perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences flourish. To achieve this exchange, it is essential that all members of the SJRMC family feel secure and welcome, that the contributions of all individuals are respected, and that all voices are heard. Each member of our SJRMC family has  the responsibility to uphold these values.

Inclusion is when each patient and caregiver feels connected, valued, included, and engaged. It is created by an environment where caregivers feel safe, supported, listened to, and able to do their best; an environment where patients feel they receive personalized care. A key to an inclusive environment is respect for all. A workforce that is diverse and inclusive in nature is more effective at crafting innovative solutions to the major challenges of healthcare and in executing those solutions as a team. Our collaborative culture will be inclusive and will reflect the diversity of the populations we serve.

We embrace diversity and inclusion to ensure the best outcome for all. We thrive when ideas and decisions from all are valued and encouraged. Each caregiver has a unique purpose, fulfilling a specific need with their talents and expertise. Everyone is needed; everyone has something important to contribute. We hold our leaders accountable for cultivating a workplace and a healing environment that respects, supports, and appreciates the uniqueness of all.

We will affirm our  commitment to diversity and inclusion by:

·      Actively seeking ways to honor the diverse needs, traditions, and customs of our caregivers, patients, families, visitors, customers, vendors, and each member of the four corners community we serve.

·      Choosing to model our healthcare system on collaboration, innovation, and creativity.

·      Providing high-quality, evidence-based, personalized care to all we are privileged to serve.

·      Living our Core Values and Service Standards.

·      Attracting diverse talent into the organization.

·      Continuously improving each caregiver’s experience and offering opportunities for each caregiver to learn and grow as they fulfill their purpose.

·      Supporting a culture of diversity and inclusion that does not tolerate discrimination, harassment or violence.
