Thursday, June 25, 2026 San Juan Regional Medical Center Receives Advanced Sterile Processing Certification from DNV

San Juan Regional Medical Center is proud to announce that we are the first healthcare facility in New Mexico and the 19th in the nation to achieve Advanced Sterile Processing Certification (ASPC) from DNV. The certification affirms our commitment to adhering to best practices and quality standards in sterile processing, infection prevention and control, surgical services, endoscopic services and related areas.

“The Advanced Sterile Processing Certification lets our community know we have the resources and commitment to provide the best possible care for our patients,” said Jason Rounds, President and CEO. “It’s a combination of the right equipment, committed caregivers and diligent training to exhibit excellence in sterile processing for all surgical and endoscopic procedures. This certification validates all the effort we have put into this program to ensure the health and safety of our patients.”

San Juan Regional Medical Center’s Central Sterile Processing department (CSP) serves as the centralized hub for the decontamination, sterilization, distribution and management of sterile instruments and equipment used throughout the hospital and affiliated clinics. The department plays a critical role in supporting patient safety by ensuring that medical instruments and equipment meet the highest standards of cleanliness and sterility. Through rigorous quality assurance practices and adherence to evidence-based infection prevention protocols, CSP plays an important role in reducing the risk of infection and supporting the delivery of safe, high-quality care across the organization.

“Achieving certification shows a commitment to excellence,” says Kelly Proctor, President of DNV Healthcare USA Inc. “Congratulations to San Juan Regional Medical Center for demonstrating to your community that you are performing at the highest level.”

During the site survey, the DNV team recognized our CSP caregivers for their outstanding efforts going above and beyond in several key areas:

  • Staff engagement
  • Department education
  • Strong administrative support

“We are committed to providing the best possible care for our patients,” the CSP team said. “Our journey does not end with this certification but rather is a signpost on the pathway to further excellence in healthcare.”

The DNV Advanced Sterile Processing Certification Requirements are informed by the guidelines and recommendations of organizations such as the Association of Perioperative Nurses (AORN), the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), and the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) and relevant requirements of the CMS Conditions of Participation for Hospitals.
