San Juan Regional Medical Center’s Newly Remodeled Childbirth Center Now Open
San Juan Regional Medical Center’s newly remodeled Childbirth Center is now open, offering families a beautifully renovated space to welcome their new babies into the world in comfort, safety and warmth. This state-of-the-art, family-oriented environment includes many exciting improvements designed to blend advanced technology with compassionate care.
“Standing in this beautiful new space I see far more than walls and equipment. I see the culmination of years of dedication and the resilience of a team that never gave up. I see the heart of a community that believes every family deserves the very best start. This is a renewal of our commitment to mothers, babies and families. A place where new life begins and lifelong memories are made,” said Sonja Crum, Director of Women and Children’s Services at San Juan Regional Medical Center.

Expanded Birthing Gym
- Large jacuzzi tub to allow mothers to enjoy the soothing benefits of water therapy during labor
- A variety of labor tools to encourage natural movement, reduce pain and enhance comfort and relaxation
Level II Special Care Nursery
- Specially trained nurses provide expert care for babies who need extra attention
- Direct telehealth access to NICU doctors

More than 100 people attended the unit’s ribbon cutting event with the Farmington Chamber of Commerce Red Coats, including San Juan County Commissioners and former SJRMC Board members Terri Fortner and Sam Gonzales.
“This is so exciting. I was an ER and OR nurse who took patients up that elevator, so I remember what this unit used to look like,” Fortner said. “I had my kids here; my daughter had my grandbabies here and it’s such a privilege to be here today. This is beautiful.”
“Look at this facility that we have. You should be very proud. This childbirth unit is just another jewel in the crown that belongs to this community,” Gonzales said.
