Tuesday, September 8, 2020 SJRMC Resumes Childbirth Preparation Series Classes Online

Becoming a parent is a big deal. While preparing for a new baby is exciting, there are also a lot of decisions to make and questions to ask. At San Juan Regional Medical Center, our Childbirth Center is committed to providing the support services and education expecting parents need to make sure their baby gets the best start in life. We are excited to announce we will be resuming our Childbirth Preparation Series classes in a new online format.

The Childbirth Preparation Series invites moms and their families to learn the basics of a healthy pregnancy and birth, what to expect once baby is born, newborn basics and beyond. Topics covered include comfort measures, breathing, relaxation, the stages and phases of labor, support person skills, medical interventions in labor, the first few weeks at home and postpartum care. Emphasis is placed on having a healthy pregnancy, understanding the physical and emotional challenges of labor and delivery and getting to know other pregnant women and families.

The classes will be held virtually via Zoom to limit in-person contact and comply with social distancing guidelines. They are offered free of charge as a benefit to expecting parents in our community, compliments of San Juan Regional Medical Center. The classes will be taught by Alicia Dicker, Childbirth Educator at San Juan Regional Medical Center. Alicia is originally from Phoenix and graduated from Arizona State University. She worked as a surgical tech in Labor and Delivery in the Phoenix area where she developed a love for caring for mothers and babies.

“I truly care about the health of women and being a part of the learning process,” Alicia said. “I can’t wait to meet everyone and be a part of their journey to parenthood.”

The next series of classes begins on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, and will be held each Tuesday and Thursday throughout the month from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Register here: Please register one person per family.
