Pastoral Care

San Juan Regional Medical Center’s Pastoral Care provides spiritual and emotional support for patients and their families and responds to emergencies through times of crisis. Our pastoral team is made of a diverse group of spiritual professionals including a Navajo chaplain to meet special needs of Native American patients and families.

Pastoral team members can consult with SJRMC healthcare staff to assist patients, families, and other staff with emotional responses, grief situations, and ethical dilemmas of medical decisions. Patients and their families who feel the need for spiritual support at anytime can call the main number or speak with a nurse.

Our department holds monthly training seminars for volunteer chaplains to develop skills associated with pastoral care in a hospital setting. Support from a patient’s own faith community is always welcome. There are two chaplains on staff who are board certified by the Association of Professional Chaplains
