Thursday, December 14, 2023 San Juan Regional Medical Center Promotes Vice President to Chief Operating Officer

San Juan Regional Medical Center is proud to announce that Ruth Brooks has been promoted to the role of Chief Operating Officer. Brooks has been with the organization for more than 20 years, most recently serving as Vice President of Accreditation, Professional and Support Services.

Brooks began her career at San Juan Regional Medical Center in 2002 as the director of Radiology and the Cancer Treatment Center. She was promoted to Vice President of Professional Services and Accreditation in 2008. Since then, Brooks has added Regulatory Compliance and Support Services as areas she leads as Vice President.

Under her leadership, San Juan Regional Medical Center has expanded in many areas. Brooks was instrumental in building and opening the San Juan Regional Cancer Center, which was completed in 2009, as well as San Juan Regional Medical Center’s Outpatient Diagnostic Center. Brooks was also key in the hospital first receiving accreditation through DNV in 2011 and continuously maintaining accreditation since then. DNV is a regulatory agency that provides hospitals around the world with frameworks to optimize performance and enhance patient safety and quality.

In addition, Brooks has played a key role leading San Juan Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Preparedness effort as incident commander. This was most evident during the COVID-19 worldwide pandemic. Her strong leadership and active collaboration and partnership with city, county, state and national officials helped ensure that our community hospital was able to get critical supplies and resources, including three separate Disaster Medical Assistance Teams and two Navy Medical Response Teams, to help provide care at a critical time.

“Ruth Brooks is one of those rare leaders who can truly do it all and makes it look effortless,” said Jason Rounds, President and CEO of San Juan Regional Medical Center. “Looking at everything she does for our organization, it’s a natural fit to promote Ruth to Chief Operating Officer. I look forward to working together even more closely in the future to support our team of caregivers as we deliver on our mission to improve the lives of the patients and communities we are privileged to serve.”
