Thursday, October 1, 2020 Protect Yourself this Flu Season with San Juan Regional Medical Center’s Free Community Flu Vaccines

San Juan Regional Medical Center wants to keep you and your loved ones from getting sick this flu season. It’s more important than ever to get a flu shot during the COVID-19 pandemic. A flu vaccine this season not only protects yourself, your family and your community from flu, it also reduces the burden on our healthcare system and saves precious medical resources for care of COVID-19 patients.

We are offering two drive-thru flu shot clinics in October as part of our commitment to keep our community healthy. They will take place on Saturday, October 24 and Saturday, October 31 in the north visitor parking lot located at the corner of Maple Street and Schwartz Avenue in Farmington (Parking Lot F). Please enter Maple from the east to get in line. The traffic pattern will take you through the parking lot and you will exit on Schwartz. To avoid traffic backups and get you in and on your way quickly, participants are asked to wear a short-sleeved shirt, or roll up their sleeve ahead of time, and be prepared to receive the vaccine in the upper arm near the shoulder by the time their car reaches the nurse.

As we work to keep our community healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic, you will need to wear a mask and bring a cell phone with you. Instead of filling out a paper form, this year’s flu shots will be as paperless as possible. Once in line, you will be directed to call registration to give your information over the phone. This does not include any sort of payment information- these flu shots are free. Please wait to get a flu vaccine if you have any COVID-19 symptoms such as sore throat, cough, body aches, fever or respiratory symptoms.

The free flu shots are available on a first come, first serve basis for adults ages 18 and older. If you are 18 or older, and especially if you belong to one of the groups at high risk of developing flu-related complications, such as adults 65 years and older, pregnant women and people with certain underlying medical conditions, we strongly encourage you to get a flu shot this season. The CDC recommends everyone six months and older gets an annual flu vaccine by the end of October. Talk to your child’s provider to schedule a flu vaccination for your child, if your child is a patient at San Juan Health Partners Pediatrics, please call 505.609.6700 to schedule a flu vaccination.
