Take A Trip

Many of our summers are packed with celebrations and vacations. But did you know that these events promote our overall wellbeing? According to the Brain and Behavior Foundation, Americans work more than people in any country in the industrialized world. We take less vacation, work longer days, and retire later in life. All these factors can lead to increased stress levels, which over time, can have a negative effect on your physical and mental wellbeing. To reduce your stress, consider taking a trip this summer to relax and recharge.

Here are some travel tips to help you make the most of your time off:

  • Ask yourself, what can I gain from this experience? Would you prefer something more spontaneous or would you like something planned that could immerse you in a new environment or culture? Decide what is best for you and start planning.?
  • Do your research. Search online for recommended travel spots, parks, and historical sites to check out. Talk to friends and family members to get their recommendations. ?
  • Unplug from technology. It can be tempting to pull out your phone or camera to snap a picture of every cool thing we see when we’re exploring a new place. Even though it is nice to have memories to look back on, try to take a moment to be fully present. Enjoy the air, soak in some sun, and examine what you see. Phones can oftentimes be a distraction when we’re trying to explore, so while you’re on a summer trip, try to focus on your surroundings instead: whether it’s who you’re with or what you’re seeing, try to immerse yourself. ?
  • Express gratitude. Take a few deep breaths and remember how special it is to take time for yourself, to explore new surroundings, immerse yourself in new experiences, and unwind from the business of your everyday life.
