At San Juan Regional Medical Center, we understand that when a child needs hospital care, families want the very best. Our Pediatric Unit is designed to provide specialized, comforting and family-centered care in a safe and nurturing environment — right here at home.

Expert Pediatric Care

• Our unit is staffed 24/7 with registered nurses (RNs) who are specially trained to care for pediatric patients. Our RNs are all Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) trained and ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) certified, delivering expert, age-appropriate care from infants to teens. 
• Dedicated pediatric hospitalists are on the floor, providing specialized medical care and close monitoring for every pediatric patient.  
• Respiratory Therapists trained to treat children with specialized breathing treatments help to combat a wide range of respiratory disorders and illnesses.  
• We also care for pediatric outpatients who might not need to be admitted but might need specialized care to help them through their illness. This offers greater convenience for families throughout the region.

“Children have a lot of different needs. We have a lot of kids who have chronic diseases in our community, so we provide pediatric outpatient services in addition to inpatient care,” said Pediatric Unit manager Melanie Stout. 

“We have assembled a great team with a lot of training and experience taking care of kids,” said pediatrician Dr. Brad Scoggins.

Family-Focused Amenities

• Private rooms with individual ensuite bathrooms, flatscreen TVs and sleeper recliners so parents can stay comfortably with their children.
• A dedicated community playroom filled with games, toys, and activities — providing children a safe space to relax and recharge. The playroom is cleaned regularly in accordance with infection control best practices. 
• Art therapy carts are available to help children express themselves creatively and support emotional healing during their stay.

• Secure entry with remote-locking doors ensures a welcoming and safe environment for patients and their families.
• Four negative pressure isolation rooms help prevent the spread of airborne illnesses.
• Two spacious nurses’ stations support efficient, responsive care from our nursing and support staff.
