Thursday, July 9, 2020 San Juan Health Partners Pediatrics Nurse Practitioner Named Chair of New Mexico Board of Nursing

Jonathan Palmer, a nurse practitioner with San Juan Health Partners Pediatrics, has been appointed as Chair of the New Mexico Board of Nursing. Mr. Palmer has served on the New Mexico Board of Nursing since 2015 as a general member and secretary.

The New Mexico Board of Nursing regulates the practice of nursing in New Mexico, licensing nurses, nurse practitioners, certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs), medication aids and dialysis techs. In addition to regulation, the board oversees nursing programs to ensure the safe practice of nursing, protecting the public and promoting a healthier New Mexico.

“I feel it a privilege to serve the state and my fellow nurses, giving back. I hope to improve communication between the board staff and nurses as I serve as chair,” Mr. Palmer said.

Mr. Palmer has deep family roots in Farmington dating back to the 1890s. He is married with five children. He graduated with degrees in biology and Spanish from the University of New Mexico and has a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Arizona. Mr. Palmer holds a Master of Science degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Northern Arizona University. He is board certified as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
