Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation

The cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation program is designed to meet the needs of the individual patient, depending upon the specific heart or lung problem or disease. Active involvement of the patient is vital to the success of the program. Rehabilitation can often improve function, reduce symptoms, and improve the well-being of the patient.

Controlled exercise and conditioning
Patients in the program use treadmills, bicycles (upright and recumbent), and arm ergometers to improve conditioning. While patients exercise, we monitor blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen saturation.

Education
We educate patients on topics including anatomy and physiology so they can better understand heart and lung diseases and how to improve their conditions. We also cover topics on nutrition, breathing techniques, and medication.

Phase Two program
After initial rehabilitation, a patient may be placed in the structured Phase Two program. In this program, cardiac patients exercise three times a week for 12 weeks and pulmonary patients exercise three times a week for eight weeks. Patients may select any three days between Monday through Thursday that works best with their schedule.

Phase Three program
After completing Phase Two, patients have the option of signing up for the Phase Three maintenance program for a nominal cost. Patients exercise under supervision three times a week. The program is offered Monday through Thursday.
