Community Outreach and Education

Stroke prevention and recognition is a priority of our stroke team. In addition to a comprehensive inpatient program, the Improving Stroke Outcomes Committee also focuses on community education, specifically preventing conditions that can cause a stroke, signs of someone having a stroke, and the appropriate actions to take. Stroke and aphasia support groups have been established in order to help victims and their families connect with others and maximize quality of life.

Aphasia Support Group: Meets the second Wednesday of each month from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Applebee's (4601 East Main Street). Call Joyce Lameire at 505.330.5256 for more information.

Stroke Support Group: Meets the third Saturday of the month from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the San Juan Center for Independence [1204 San Juan Blvd.]. Call Don Sisson at 505.320.8452 for more information.
