Remembering Lilly Tsosie

What I remember from Lilly was Lilly was the go-to person for difficult draws. She was very good at what she did and had lots of tricks to teach. She knew the impact she had on patients and was always looking out for them. When new processes came out, she always had the patient in mind. She was kind and got lots of requests for her skill in blood draws. She was very family orientated and always talked about her family.

Lilly always seemed to sense when I needed an encouraging word and would tell me randomly that she saw the work I did and appreciated it. She always brought me a Dr. Pepper and said "good job today boss!" As someone in a leadership position, you are not always told that you are appreciated by your peers/people you oversee and she always made it a point to tell me that I was. She always told me to slow down because I was never in one place all day. She would say "every time I call you, you're in a different area! Slow down!" If I could thank both Lula and Lilly for the time they took training me I would. They were a part of the phlebotomist I became and taught me what little Navajo I know now. Both of them were great women and I will miss their smiles, humor and hearing them say "hello!" when they walked in those lab doors ready for their shift.

I started working here in 2007 as a Phlebotomist. I remember Lilly was the person that trained me. Everyone told me that she was a good trainer and they were right. When I met her, she was very soft spoken and knew her job well. I asked her lots of questions, and she answered them with a serious face. And when something went wrong, she would always say, “For crying out loud.” It put a smile on my face when I heard her say that. As I got to know her more, she became not only my co-worker but my family and a role model. When other co-workers weren’t able to draw a patient, they would call her to the rescue. She and I chatted about our families in Navajo. She always talked about her grandkids. She loved them so much and would do anything for them. I was at the Outpatient Diagnostic Center when I heard that she was no longer with us. I started to cry and couldn’t believe what I was hearing, I thought she was going to fight and beat this COVID. Lilly will be missed but will be remembered by the many lives that she had touched.

Lilly was the best soccer mom, coach, Grandmother, tireless co-worker, and friend...EVER. Always looking for a deal at the mall (Shiprock flea market), Lilly would share her finds with me and I would bring her a Rocky Mountain chocolate bear cluster. Anytime I see bear clusters I think of my special friend. Holy Moley Lilly!!

I would like to share a little memory about Lilly and Lula: We would always talk about going to the casino. It was always fun to talk about if we won or lost. Lula and Lilly worked really hard. I worked with both of them and I can say that I learned so much from them.
