Session 1 and 3: 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. 

Session 2 and 4: 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Session 1 - February 5, 2026

This class will cover the third trimester of pregnancy including what is happening to both mom and baby, healthy habits, common discomforts and solutions, possible complications to be aware of, understanding the processes behind labor and how to know when labor is beginning. A tour of the Childbirth Unit typically happens during this first evening of class but this is contingent upon how busy the Unit is.

Session 2 - February 12, 2026

This class is dedicated to what to expect during labor and delivery, including the stages of labor, breathing techniques, exercises to prepare the body for labor as well as comfort strategies for pain management during labor.  This class also covers possible interventions like an induction or c-section as well as what pain interventions are available at SJRMC. Moms should dress comfortably for this class because they will learn birth ball strategies as well as other exercises for labor preparation and pain management.

Session 3 - February 19, 2026

This week focuses on the postpartum period for mom and baby. Topics covered include postpartum healing, what to expect from your newborn and serious complications like postpartum depression as well as important ways to take care of self during the first year with a newborn.  This is our back-up evening for a tour if we are unable to take one during the first night of class.

Session 4 - February 26, 2026

This week covers breastfeeding and newborn care.  We talk about the benefits of breastfeeding for mom and baby, what to expect in the first few days of nursing, breastfeeding positions, common issues that can occur in the first few days and solutions as well as the basics of pumping and storing breastmilk. The newborn care portion covers the basics of newborn care, health and safety. 

Class will be held in the Childbirth Classroom located on the 5th floor of San Juan Regional Medical Center
