Mapping AEDs to Save Lives

Would you know where the nearest AED was if you saw someone experiencing a sudden cardiac arrest? Chances are you might not. Yet AEDs can mean the difference between life and death. As an accredited Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI, San Juan Regional Medical Center is dedicated to providing exceptional heart care to our community. That’s why we’re working with the City of Farmington to improve the health of our community through the AED mapping project.

This interactive map, which can be found online at www.sanjuanregional.com/findaed pinpoints the exact location of AEDs in our community. Our goal is to provide emergency services, first responders, community businesses and residents with up-to-date AED locations to reduce the time to defibrillation.

  • An AED is a sophisticated but easy-to-use medical device that can analyze a patient’s heart rhythm and, if necessary, administer an electrical shock (defibrillation) to re-establish a regular heart rhythm.
  • For each minute that defibrillation is delayed, the odds of surviving a sudden cardiac arrest are reduced by approximately 10 percent. So, having access to an AED and knowing how to use one is critical.

If you know of an AED location that is not listed on the map, please take time to share it with us by filling out a form at the bottom of our Find an AED page, or by emailing us at aed@sjrmc.net. You never know when this information will help save a life. Follow this link to learn more about the AED Mapping Project. https://www.sanjuanregional.com/aed
