FARMINGTON, NM (July 2, 2008) Robert H. Fabrey II, MD, MMM has been named to the position of chief medical officer at San Juan Regional Medical Center. He was previously with the Georgetown Hospital system in Georgetown, S.C. where he was also chief medical officer. He has also served as senior vice president of medical affairs in St. Joseph's health system.

Fabrey received his M.D. from State University of New York and served his residency in family practice at Mountain Area Health Education Center in Asheville, N.C. He is board certified in family practice, and he was a family practice physician for 13 years.

When Fabrey was part of the senior administration team at St. Joseph's, he was instrumental in helping that hospital attain a notable quality excellence award. During his tenure, St. Joseph's competed for and won the North Carolina Quality Leadership Award (the state's version of the Baldridge award). They were the first healthcare facility to receive the honor. For a number of years, Fabrey was also a consultant for the Joint Commission, a national organization that accredits healthcare organizations that meet standards of quality and safety.

Fabrey attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering. He served as Captain and company commander in the U.S. Army before attending medical school.

Fabrey and his wife Carol, who holds a doctorate in education, have three children and two grandchildren, with a new grandchild on the way. They are pleased to live in this area which they have visited often through the years.

"My interest is in quality improvement," he said recently. "My idea is that patients who come into this hospital can go out with outstanding outcomes."
