Pastoral Care

The Department of Pastoral Care at San Juan Regional provides spiritual and emotional support for patients and their families. We can respond to emergency needs at any time to help through times of crisis.

The Pastoral Care staff can consult with healthcare team members regarding patient needs, including assisting staff, patient and family with patients' emotional responses, grief situations, and ethical/moral dilemmas of medical decisions.

To speak with a chaplain at San Juan Regional, arrange a visit, or request a cleric of a particular faith, please call (505) 609-6007 during the day. Evenings and weekends, patients at the Hospital may ask their nurse to contact a chaplain. Support from a patient's own faith community is always welcome at the hospital. The manager of the Pastoral Care department can assist churches in obtaining the proper credentials for patient visitations. The credentials are available to both clergy and lay ministers.

A Navajo chaplain is on staff to meet the special needs of Native American patients and families.

Volunteer Chaplains
The Pastoral Care department holds monthly training seminars to assist volunteer chaplains in developing the skills associated with pastoral care in a hospital setting. Chaplains respond to special requests and emergencies 24/7. The department manager is a Board Certified Chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains.
